How Long Will My Bathroom Remodel Take?

November 11, 2014

Any remodeling project takes a considerable time investment. Depending on the project, you could be looking at from couple of weeks to several months. We want to give a typical outline of how long it will take to complete a few different types of projects. First, let’s take a look at a bathroom remodel.

Keep in mind: Every project is different, so this is more of a guideline than a for certain timeline. Some factors to consider are the size of your bathroom, whether you’re making serious structural changes, as well as if you’re adding an addition. However, it’s good to know generally how long your bathroom (or whatever room) will be out of commission.

That being said, here’s a general break down of what a bathroom renovation could look like.

Day 1: Pre-construction meeting

Days 2-4: Demolition and groundworks plumbing

Day 5: Framing (includes plywood floor repair, wall stud repair, new walls/windows/door locations)

Day 6: Electric (to make sure that everything in the area is electrically safe)

Day 7: HVAC (moving duct work as necessary to ensure proper ventilation)

Day 8: Inspection (electric and HVAC are up to code and safe)

Days 9-10: Air seal/insulate; Insulate inspection

Days 11-12: Drywall

Day 13: First coat of paint (primer)

Days 14-16: Install ceramic tile

Days 17-19: Install vanity cabinets, order vanity countertops, and paint interior trimwork

Day 20: Finalize electric (includes installation of light fixtures and making sure all electric is working prior to inspection)

Day 21: Install vanity countertops

Day 22: Final HVAC (make sure all fans are working to ensure proper ventilation before final inspection)

Day 23: Install bath hardware (includes faucets, mirrors, medicine cabinets, vanity knobs, towel bars, door knobs, etc.)

Day 24: Final inspection (to ensure that everything is up to code and in working order)

Day 25: Final cleaning (leaving your home feeling fresh and ready for you to enjoy your new bathroom)

In this case, the start to finish remodel took a little over three weeks. Keep in mind that beforehand, you’ll go through the planning stages that include all of your design work as well. The process is different for everyone, but the general steps are what is listed above.
